The Computer Room is open on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Pupils may use the Internet to find information or pictures for projects. Pupils may print their work at a cost. Computer Club meets on a Thursday afternoon. Pupils are taught how to do simple programming using an online program called “Scratch” as well as other computer activities like blogging, web site building etc.
Enhance your thinking. Expand your minds. Dare to think strategically. We dare to do so. Our keen chess players partake in regular practices, where they eagerly take on the challenge of playing against other schools. The challenge of winning a game is fun, but is not the be all and end all. We enjoy learning from each other and interacting with our peers. We welcome anyone from Grade 4-7 to be part of our team.
The Blouberg Ridge Marimba Band is comprised of learners from Grade 4-7, playing a variety of African instruments. They perform at various school events during the year and they take part in the annual Tygerberg Eisteddfod. The marimba band has received Honours for their performances.
As children love dressing up and acting, the drama club is a hive of activity. We use a variety of different art forms such as miming, puppetry, speech choir and many more.
Senior Drama Group
Senior Drama takes place throughout the year on two afternoons per week. Pupils are encouraged to attend and this affords pupils many opportunities to perform. They are invited to to participate in eisteddfods, audition for school plays and perform at assemblies. Lessons focus on enhancing breath control, improving enunciation and voice projection. Pupils are taught the skills involved in mime and interpreting music. Lessons also focus on improvisation in the form of role play, television presentation and presenting advertisements. It is a fun filled activity which helps the introvert to grow in confidence and the confident child to become part of a group.
Pupils are invited to join a fun-filled environment where we offer one-hour sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. If you want your child to be creative and to have the self-confidence to express themselves, they can be encouraged to join. Children will be able to expand their skills and knowledge in these small art classes with plenty of individual attention.
Pupils who belong to the Textile Club learn a variety of skills. These include sewing, knitting, embroidery and working from patterns. They then have the chance to put these skills into practice through fun activities. Some of the activities include sewing and decorating Christmas stockings which are given to families who receive food parcels at the end of the year.
The Veggie Garden is a joint school community project between Blouberg Ridge Primary School and Starke Ayres Nursery Sunningdale. The Veggie Garden aims to grow seasonal fruit and vegetables to help support the schools feeding scheme for families who receive financial assistance. The garden runs Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
The Science club has been established to encourage pupils to take Life Sciences as well as Physical Sciences as a subject in high school one day and also, to develop a love for Science as a subject. The different types of activities that are done at Science club are: Learning how to use a microscope, studying plant and animal cells, preparation of wet mounts and studying them under the microscope, dissections, cleaning up of the Greenbelt/wetland area behind the school as well as cleanups on the beach, excursions to the Aquarium, Waterfront and Flamingo Vlei and lastly an introduction to Grade 8 science
